On thursday evening we held a fundraising event in The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre with the Geraldine tramping club to help raise funds for a very important expedition. The night included fascinating presentations by Phurenje Sherpa and Norman Hardie (A famous old climber & contemporary of Sir Ed's). In April 2010 the club will be traveling to Nepal to install solar lighting in a small Sherpa village called Damar, south of Everest. They will also be giving them help to use a spinning wheel for the first time and assistance with health care and education equipment.
We would like to wish the club the best of luck with Project Damar and we're glad that we were able to help raise enough funds to purchase one of the solar lighting systems ($700+) on the night.
